Configure backups tab
Configure and manage the backup configurations on the Configure backups tab.
The quick search field above the list provides fast, as-you-type search. It filters the rows in the list, displaying only those rows that have text, in any field, that matches the query string.
Click the icon to add a backup configuration.
The Backup Configuration list lists the existing backup configurations and includes the following fields:
- Name
-
The name of the backup configuration.
Click to edit the backup configuration.
Click to delete the backup configuration. In the confirmation pop-up, type the name in the text box. If the name matches, you can click the Delete config button. Deleting a configuration does not delete any of your backups. It only removes the access information.
Click to test the backup configuration.
Click the icon in the list header to sort the list of backup configurations by name.
- Storage

Add a backup configuration
You add a backup configuration with the Add backup configuration pop-up.
In the Configuration section, provide the following:
-
Enter a Name for the backup configuration.
-
Select the Storage from the pull-down menu. The menu is populated with the defined storage locations.
Optionally, provide an Encryption key. If you enter a key, the VMware NSX Network Detection and Response uses aes256 CBC to encrypt the backup data before it is transferred to the backup storage.
To speed up the backup process, you can enable the Essential files only toggle (disabled by default). When you enable this toggle, the system will only backup the backend database but not any pcap or analysis files.
Click the Full Backup Configuration link and provide the following:
-
Full Backup Frequency — Select when to perform a backup from the pull-down menu. If you select Manual, the configuration is complete. If you select Yearly, Monthly, Weekly, or Daily, then you must provide specific date and time parameters.
Click the Incremental Backup Configuration link and provide the following:
-
Incremental Backup Frequency — Select when to perform a backup from the pull-down menu. If you select Manual, the configuration is complete. If you select Yearly, Monthly, Weekly, or Daily, then you must provide specific date and time parameters.
Once the backup is properly configured, click the Add Config button to save your changes and dismiss the pop-up.
A full backup is a backup that contains all the data in the appliance. An incremental backup, on the other hand, contains only the changes between the last backup and the current state of the system. Running a full backup can be fairly slow on a system with a lot of data. A recommended setup is to configure the appliance to run a full backup once a week and an incremental backup every hour. This can be achieved by selecting Weekly for Full Backup Frequency and Hourly for Incremental Backup Frequency.
Edit the backup configuration
You add a backup configuration with the Edit backup configuration pop-up. This pop-up is the same as the Add backup configuration except you cannot change the configuration Name.
